Introduction to Electrocoagulation and Filtration

The EC-F system, by combining electrocoagulation and filtration, reduces wastewater pollutants in a compact package. In the electrocoagulation section, by generating an electric current, suspended and colloidal particles, heavy metals, and factors causing COD, BOD, TSS, and turbidity are destabilized and prepared for separation. This method can be used for industrial effluents as well as for the production of industrial and sanitary water.

Applications and Key Benefits

System applications

  • Treatment of industrial and sanitary wastewater
  • Reduction of COD, BOD, TSS, turbidity, and heavy metals
  • Wastewater from the textile, dyeing, paper, printing, and chemical manufacturing industries
  • Food industry, beverages, dairy, slaughterhouse, and petrochemicals
  • Industrial and sanitary water production with the addition of supplementary steps

Technical and operational benefits

  • Lower investment cost in building a treatment plant
  • Lower operating cost due to limited energy and chemicals
  • Low occupied space; in some projects, up to about one-fifth of biological methods
  • No unpleasant odor production
  • Continuity and quick stoppability of the process
  • Simple operation without the need for a highly specialized operator
  • Quick start-up and proper adaptation to changes in flow rate, pH, and pollutant concentration
